Apart of personalized learning is understanding a student’s preferred learning style. While preferred learning style encompasses many things, one is flexible seating. I am trying to break the mold of traditional seating and allow students to sit (or stand) where they think they will be most productive.
My classroom has different spaces for students to work, such as the big rug where students can extra help from me, the small rug where students can work independently, long tables where students can collaborate, and the middle school lounge, where students can go to get out of a noisy room. All sections of the classroom are seated areas, so standing desks would be a great addition to my classroom. Also, lapdesks would make working on the rug much easier for students. I want to make sure to create an environment in my classroom so every student’s needs are met to have the most successful year they can have.
