The goal of this project is to meet the sensory needs of kindergarten- fourth grade students in my classroom. These chairs are meant to let children move while still attending to a lesson. Many of the students that enter my room have a negative attitude towards school because of the learning challenges they face. Many struggle to attend to instruction and are struggling with reading, writing, and math. Sensory items as the wobble chair will help students who have Autism and need sensory output, as well as those with ADHD.
I currently have two wobble chairs in my classroom at this point, and I see the benefits for all learners, but especially for those with exceptional learning challenges.
The rocking motion of these seats provides sensory input for the nervous system, specifically the vestibular system, that can be calming and organizing for the brain. This type of input will help students pay attention while getting the movement they need.
Students who have attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity issues especially struggle to stay focused throughout the day. These stools that I'm requesting would help all of my students, especially those with attentional concerns, to maintain stamina and focus throughout the day.
By having alternative seating in the classroom students are free to make a choice in which seating arrangement is best for their own learning. By giving them a choice I am helping them begin to learn how to make appropriate choices and self-regulate in order to make them more successful within the classroom.
We need your help to make these tools available to our students who need them! There simply is not enough funding to purchase these without donor support. My students deserve the best possible learning environment for their needs. Your donation will make this a reality. THANK YOU~
