My school faces an 86% impoverishment rate. Our school is a public, early childhood center; it services children in grades pre-k through fourth grade.
So many of my children, all of whom live in the inner city of Buffalo, NY, come to school with worries on their minds. They are concerned about food, clothing shelter and family issues. My goal in instituting this school wide behavior program is to set up the most positive environment possible for these bright young learners. This will fill their minds with positive coping mechanisms and set them up for success in the academic environment from the start of their educational careers.
My children need an emotional attachment to their educators to overcome their economic obstacles. The positive atmosphere of a "Bucket Filler" school would further improve attendance by exciting the children each day; they would have enthusiasm each day in trying to fill our population's "buckets."
