The start of each day is important as it affects the tone of the whole day! Many days can be filled with assignments that can cause anxiety for students. The materials I am requesting will allow my students to have a soft start to their day! Picture this...as students enter my classroom on Fridays, a typical test/quiz day, they may feel anxious about the assignments ahead. By providing the requested materials, students are able to disconnect from the anxious feelings they may have and connect with their classmates over common interests. They can use these materials to create, think outside the box, and build connections and friendships with others in our classroom over common interests. My goal in providing these resources is that students will be able to choose the "soft start" of their choice and have 15-20 minutes to calm their nerves and just relax before we begin our day.
Building a classroom community is important, and these soft starts are the perfect way to ease anxiety and open the floor for building relationships among classmates. The choices they will have can connect them to friends and possibilities they never knew existed! What better tone to create for the day than a calm, relaxed, confident tone ready to tackle whatever comes their way!
