Our students come from many backgrounds. The one thing that can be said about them ALL is that they are looking for a more authentic school experience. They come to our school to learn in a more hands-on way and find a connection between academics and the real world. We (when I say we I mean the students and staff) pride ourselves in creating relevant integrated projects. We make connections with our community. Students work with local businesses and community agencies. They are survivors, people who refuse to quit even when it seem like they should. Many people look at our students (before they arrive at New Urban) and see failure, laziness and/or disrespect. But we know it is all about environment and opportunity. Students are known for who they are and encouraged to develop their gifts, then they can work on their weakness. Our building reflects our work: a small building, the walls are filled with students art and writings. Students will say hello when you visit.
