Storytelling kits enable young children to retell and dramatize favorite stories they have been read in the classroom. When I read the children stories we often act them out and then the children practice retelling the story while looking at the book by themselves. These puppet storytelling kits and the five requested storytelling kits will provide my children with an engaging active way of retelling favorite stories.
Manipulating objects facilitates understanding of the story vocabulary, especially for English language learners. As the children retell and re-enact the story with their peers they develop their language skills, interpersonal skills, and build a deeper understanding of the story language. This supports understanding who the characters are in the stories as well as the sequence of events in a story.
Using the storytelling lapboard, I will model how to use each storytelling kit as I introduce the story and they will then be for use by the children. I know that having the opportunity to use these materials will build the students engagement with books and stories as they simultaneously develop their language skills.
