Flexible seating allows students to move while listening to the instruction going on in the classroom. They are able to take charge of their learning and make choices that work for them. At the beginning of the year students rotate through all the flexible seating options, then as the year goes on they are able to make choices in the morning for which seating option works best for them. This not only helps their learning but encourages them to practice making wise choices that enhance their learning. I have also noticed amazing differences when my children are given the responsibility of making choices. They feel proud that they are able to make a good choice and enjoy the seating option they have while learning. My students are more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where they work.
Making sure students are comfortable and able to move is an essential component in helping them to learn. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options within the classroom. The wobble cushions will allow students to move while sitting in chairs which is very important for little bodies, especially my special education students. The butterfly stools and floor chairs will give students more options for spreading out and not being confined to working at a table.
I have seen how movement options and choice can positively affect my students work and their demeanor. I hope that additional seating choices will allow my students to continue to focus and grow academically as well as socially.
