"The more you read, the more you'll know. The more you know, the more places you'll go! - Dr. Seuss I am wishing to create a fun and engaging classroom library environment that allows students the ability to freely select their reading books. Encouraging students to self-select their books promotes independencey and creates excitement. Exposing students to books of various genres and authors helps develop a greater understanding of text structures and the world around them. Organization and having a wide-array of book selections is key. This project provides book bins so that all of my books that have been stored in my classroom closet can now be fully accessible to my students. The bins will allow books to be organized by genre, author, and theme. Students will independently select books and store them in their book buddy sacks. With such an organizational system, when students are done reading the book they will be able to develop an understanding of book and text structure as they sort the books back into the appropriate bins. Additional non-fiction books will deepen student's understanding of things like bats, polar bears, and the ocean. Learning to read is only one component of literacy though. With the story telling glove students will be able to retell stories and demonstrate their understanding of key story elements such as characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end of story elements. Please help me to instill a love of literacy as we plant the seed to grow to grow students who will say, "I love to read!"
