My students are K-5 elementary students with Autism, Intellectual Disability, and Down Syndrome. Some of my students are non-verbal and communicate via augmentative and alternative communication devices, gestures, and picture symbols. Other students are minimally verbal and speak in 1-2 word utterances, while some are verbal and speak in simple sentences. They attend a public, special-education school in NYC. My students vary in language levels and they all benefit from targeted language therapy to improve their vocabulary and sentence formulation skills. Most of my students are visual learners, therefore they succeed when provided with pictures to support their language learning.
