My first graders live in a small, Illinois town of about 4,000 people. We have a small school of about 288 Pre-K to 2nd grade students. About 43% of students in our building qualified for free and reduced lunches last school year. Sometimes people don't realize that even small town students have struggling families and districts. Our excellent school district struggles to keep the budget balanced, while keeping great programs for all students. In addition to these challenges, we are trying to keep up with the demands of 21st century learning and the diverse learning styles of our students.
