Many of my students are taking art for the first time. They have little exposure to the arts in our community. I would like to bring a guest artist, well known in our town, to work with my students and teach them how to create a multi media painting using collage and painting techniques. Exposure to community arts is an important aspect of their art education.
Working with a guest artist will not only provide my students with the connections and skills necessary to explore a career in the visual arts, but also create a relationship with artists in the community. They will learn new techniques in creating a work of art and demonstrate the skills with their finished piece.
These supplies will be used to create layers on canvas board in their artwork by using collage techniques, stenciling, and blending with acrylics to create unity in their design with paint. The finished product will reveal a collage of origami papers, thin layers of paint and images stenciled in different ways to create more layers. Students will have the option to create their own stencils with the stencil paper as well. The foam brushes make it easier to paint in and around the stencils. Canvas board is a great medium for collage that we haven't used in my classes before due to the cost. They have worked with a similar medium, but this will give them better insight as to how multiple mediums can be combined and work together to create a unified piece of artwork.
