My elementary school is a first year turn around school, it was previous operated under the cities school district but has since been taken over by a charter school. Before the school was taken over they went through many trials and tribulations, it was an extremely violent school while also lagging academically.
After the neighborhood accept the charter school to take over we re-registered close to 80% of the returning students who live in the neighborhood. The other 20% is a mix of students who previous went to the school and left because of the unsafe condition and low academic progress as well as new students.
Currently in my 2nd grade class I have 26 students who are extremely passionate about the change and the progress that they are making academically within the classroom. We instill in our students that they have the opportunity to go to college and pursue their dreams and this is what pushes them to strive to do better academically.
