My students come from a very challenging social-economic background. Many of my students are from broken homes, single-parent homes and experience a rough upbringing. They lack many basic needs. Crime and drugs are a constant in the areas where they live. Many of my students are apathetic towards school because they can't see the benefits due to the environment in which they are raised. Some of my students have parents on drugs and have to help raise their siblings. My students are bright and capable but lack the motivation or confidence in themselves. They need to know their teacher cares about them and believes in them. I hope to show that by teaching them to love reading and providing a comforting learning environment.
