My students attend a public school which is overcrowded, underfunded, and still earns standardized test scores to make us a California Distinguished School. Three quarters of them have free lunches because their parents live below the poverty line. My class is a combination of seven languages, nine nationalities, and 29 curious minds. They range in ability from students who are Gifted and Talented to those who have individualized learning programs for disabilities. Some read novels, some can't read at all.
