My 9th grade students attend an urban school with a huge reputation for its athletic prowess. Many of the students see very little value in education, preferring to rely on their skill on the court or playing field. Should they be taught the power of knowledge and a good education, many of them could be the first of their families to graduate from high school and/or go to college. To achieve that, though, they must be given supplies that show them that we also value their education.
