A diverse group of curious learners ready and eager to expand their minds, best describes my 4th graders.
Although the families of my 4th graders are economically disadvantaged, they respect the value of education.
Many of my students are English Language Learners(ELL) who desire a warm and inviting atmosphere. It is so important that they experience the beauty of learning even with barriers of language. This is why the time we spend together during Reader's and Writer's Workshop is essential to developing and building a family within our classroom...Like an extension of their homes.
More often than not, my students face challenges of homelessness and poverty. By no fault of their own, they have not been exposed to the possibilities and opportunities they can possess.
Daring to dream has been a hurdle they do not attempt because of the constant transition of moving from home to home and in many cases a shelter.
