Our classroom is composed of 23 brilliant first graders. Students have spent the summer getting excited to get back in the classroom, and as their new teacher, I want to make sure I am building the most comfortable environment for them to make progress in the classroom. Currently, our room is devoid of any furniture other than student desks, chairs, and a small bookcase to house independent reading time books. An uncomfortable metal desk is not where I want my students to spend their reading time; I want to provide them with a bright, colorful, and inviting setting to learn the joy of relaxing with a great book and keep them engaged during guided reading.
