Chess is one of the oldest games in the world going as far back as the 7th century in India. Chess is also know as the "mind sport" in some countries. It helps students be able to plan ahead, critical think , memorize patterns, be patient, work in teams, have the understanding of sportsmanship plus gain self confidence in ones ability to play.
This is a life long game where age, physical abilities or impairments does not have a say in whether your tactics or strategies lets you win or loose. This game is Universal and that is why I would like my students to learn how to play. I would like them to be able to sit down with the chess set and be physically present in the game, not online. I believe students need more opportunities to be able to communicate with each other and learn from one another. Since we live in a world of technology many of my students don't even know how to play checkers or go fish.
