We are a Title I middle school with a very friendly and involved community. I serve two very distinct groups at my school: my algebra students and my math 7 students. My algebra students are more inherently driven. To be in algebra in 7th or 8th grade means you are an advanced math student.
My math 7 students are amazing, but need a little more motivation.
It is my goal that both groups leave me with the idea that they have refined their problem solving skills and will use those skills on a daily basis. While it's often a challenge to attach the "real-life" application of some math standards, I can create more buy-in from the students by using math games and technology.
All of my students are tech driven and feel comfortable with technology. And I think everyone loves to learn in a way that feels meaningful and purposeful. I am always looking for ways to attach a deeper meaning to math and their daily lives.
