The students at CES, where I am a K-6 literacy coach, have had a difficult year and a half making literacy gains. The demographic of our students in Sterling Heights, Michigan, includes many from lower socioeconomic statuses as well as coming from English-as-a-second-language homes. With the burden of the pandemic, the area surrounding us faced difficulties and many families cannot afford literacy materials. I feel it is my duty as a literacy coach to reach each and every child to be successful. I am hoping that my project for a variety of books can be fulfilled and we can create book bags that will be rotated weekly. Our students deserve books to read!
