My students attend public school and are from a variety of backgrounds. Many of them receive free or reduced lunch and have parents that are not as involved as they would like to be because of their work schedules or lack of educational background. Our state adopted the common core standards this year and is working to incorporate non-fiction science and social studies texts into the curriculum to meet these standards.
