My students attend a urban school in the state of Illinois. My school has 1,169 students with 86.7% considered low income. The major challenges for them in physical education and fitness are that they have limited time and space for physical education class and for engaging in physical fitness activities in general. Students go to physical education class once per week, and there is very little outdoor space at our school, making it necessary to conduct most classes in the gym. To maximize the limited time and space they have, it is important that they are engaged for the entire class and that they have the ability to do as much movement as possible within a limited space. One terrific solution is music and dance!
