My students attend a program for students with moderate cognitive disabilities in urban Illinois. Many of the students I teach have Autism or Down Syndrome. While they have significant needs, they are hard working and sweet children, but many live in great poverty. Our school barely has the money needed to purchase basic school needs such as toilet paper and copy paper. It is difficult to find the money to purchase the extra and often expensive supplies the students I work with require to meet their individual needs in the classroom.
