My student population is a mix of military and low income students. My school is trying to become STEM certified, which would provide meaningful, real world learning experiences which allow students to think, build, create, collaborate, and share their work with others as they learn how to become 21st century learners. Our school has wonderful, dedicated teachers and staff, and it would be great to be able to provide these experiences and opportunities for our student population to get more hands-on experiences that integrate multiple subject areas, and allow them to become "makers". As a military spouse, I want our military students to get the best education they can so they can be prepared for success wherever they move to next. Likewise, our low income students rarely get these types of opportunities to learn given strict budgets and time constraints, so being able to incorporate meaningful STEM experiences will allow them to interact more deeply with the curriculum.
