My students are five and six year olds who many come from extreme poverty and lack of higher education in their homes. Many are English Language Learners and are not only learning to read, but learning to communicate in English. Many come from homes that do not have books, especially books on their reading level that they can practice reading and become fluent readers who love to read. Someone who can read can learn anything and everything.
