Hands-on materials students can use to create and design solutions to problems are engaging tools to empower them as learners. Connecting science, technology, engineering, art, and math by having STEM kits, supplies like craft sticks, straws, and pipe cleaners, as well as the different types of building bricks, will provide open-ended uses for students individual ideas to come to life. These tools will help them be both creative and analytical as they explore areas such as cause and effect, the scientific method, and how and why things work. Engaging students; boys and girls, in the combined disciplines of STEAM allows them to problem solve, think critically, and use creativity in ways that will prepare them to be innovators in our society. When combined with an artistic approach, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics seem more accessible and intriguing to creatively inclined students. This integrated approach to learning allows all students to make connections in and out of the classroom. With the support of donors, like you, I am excited to be able to provide a learning environment for my students to build these 21st-century skills.
