Our students are in the suburb part of NYC where the demographics is predominantly central American/African American students whose parents have immigrated to the US for a better quality of life. Unfortunately these parents have 2 and 3 jobs to support their daily living and have limited time and income to provide their kids with help. Many parents are limited in how they can help their kids succeed due to the lack of the English language but are eager for their kids to learn and be successful. The only way is if we as educators are provided with all the necessary materials to expose them with during school hours and my school is limited in that to the ELL population.
