My students attend a low performing school located in a low socio-economic area of California. A large percentage of the students are English language learners and receive free and reduced lunch. Our school does not have the necessary resources for students to go that extra distance. I'm talking about technology. We have two computer labs, but we are lucky if all of the computers work and most don't have the memory to run as fast as necessary. Also, with only two labs, it is difficult to compete for those spaces when testing takes up the labs for weeks at a time and competition for the remaining days is fierce among all of the subject areas. Our students struggle each day with challenges I never faced when I was younger and yet, the students at our school are energetic, vocal, confident young people who show up each day and try to succeed as best they can. They should be given every opportunity.
