My students in grades 5-8 are all apart of our middle school's Special Eduction Intensive Support classroom, for students with emotional disabilities. We currently program for 16 students; some of which are self-contained and others who are on a check in/check out system within the mainstream setting. These students come from a diverse group of cultures, socioeconomic statuses, and ages that require common areas to develop a sense of community and a sense of self. They are energetic and charming students who struggle to regulate their emotions and impulses. Projects and hands on activities are desperately needed during community building times and for individual instruction to capitalize on my students strengths and areas of interests. Most of my students show a future interest in trade work and desire self-sufficient skills in practical areas such as S.T.E.A.M. or vocational studies.
