The school that I teach at is considered to be a high poverty public school. About half of our student population receives free or reduced lunches. Our students often come to school without their basic needs being met. They may have not eaten since the previous day at school, many don't have school supplies, or even winter coats. All tangible items are often given to the students so that they have everything that they need to succeed.
Because many of their basic needs are not being met, school can be a difficult challenge for many of them. Technology is an area in which all children from all socio-economic levels are interested. The level of interest and enthusiasm when students are allowed to use technology to learn is amazing to see. Their ability to create and collaborate with each other helps to develop skills that students will eventually be using in the workforce. I have capable, creative, and ambitious students that are eager to learn with technology.
