My 6th grade students are 10-11 years old and many of them are struggling readers. Many of them have special needs and learning disabilities . Some of them are learning English as a second language and they come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school has about 2500 students and it is located in an urban area of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County.
