The supplies found in these Ping-Pong Ball Launch kits will allow my students to explore the engineering design process. The materials can be used in the way outlined by the project and in a wide variety of STEM projects.
Students will work in collaborative groups to compete in an engineering design challenge created by the students. This is nine week-long project that integrates math, art, technology, and writing. In the past, students brought supplies from home or I went to the recycling center to gather what they needed. We will still focus on using recycled materials as much as possible but would like to increase the use of 'real- world' materials. This challenge presents a very unique learning situation for the students. because there is not a 'right' answer. The students who may struggle academically often shine during this competition and it gives them the incentive to improve their math and writing skills.
To the students winning is the most important thing but the learning outcomes demonstrate an improvement in communication, collaboration and critical, creative thinking.
