The students at my school are very diverse and have personal challenges to overcome. Approximately 79% are living at or below poverty level and receive subsidized meals. Our student body is 68% Hispanic, 15% African-American, 10% Filipino, 3% Pacific Islander, and 3% Asian. Despite the crime and poverty in the surrounding area, we have a thriving 4-year engineering program with high school students that are involved in many different engineering projects both during and after school.
Our students have won regional and national engineering competitions and earned internships at local engineering companies. In addition to general engineering skills, our students also learn the fundamentals of digital electronics, programming, 3D modeling, system design, manufacturing, and fabrication.
