My students attend school in an under served school district which has been forced to sadly lay off hundreds of teachers and eliminate after school programs including academic intervention due to budgetary constraints. Simultaneously the state has raised student and teacher achievement levels but has not provided all of the necessary tools needed in order to meet and exceed expectations. Most of the technology we have is outdated and breaks often leaving the students frustrated and feeling defeated. While it is true that some students have access to technology at home a majority do not and look forward to having exposure to it while at school no matter how limited it may be. It has been noted that having access to technology increases student attendance rates therefore increasing rates of academic success.
