My students are hungry for knowledge, but sometimes they are not sure how to communicate it. Many of my students also come to school literally hungry. In the 2013-2014 school year, our school's population was 83% free and reduced lunch. The community that our school is located in was once a thriving farm are, but has now become the central hub for all things industrial. A large population of our community is made up of families who immigrated from Mexico. Some of my students have much more to worry about than just going to school and getting good grades. On top of that, they have a job, several siblings to look after, they move around frequently, and many do not have support from their families to do well in school. For those students, school becomes the only constant in their lives.
