I have been teaching first, secondand third grade for over 24 years, but this year it is very apparent that my students lack the vocabulary of science. I have 43 wonderful students. My school is over thirty years old and although we are designated high poverty we are not Title 1. Over 60% of the children at our school are eligible for free and reduced breakfast and lunch. My students try very hard to learn and they are fascinated by their world. They want to learn about animals and weather. Six of my students are in Indian Education, two in Special Ed, and three in ESL. We cannot afford to go on field trips so everything we do (learn) takes place in the classroom or the playground.
