I describe my class this year as a community of learners who are determined to learn new information each day. They believe that each person has gifts to share with the world and deserves to be appreciated. They are amplifying their feelings by sharing random acts of kindness to their fellow students. This year they are motivated to identify their individual passions and to celebrate their uniqueness. Many are of a lower socio-economic level as our school has over 50% of students receiving free and reduced-price lunches.
One of the most important skills that my students need to build engagement with reading to raise their reading levels to 6th-grade levels. This accomplishment will improve their chances of moving on to higher levels of education with strong reading skills.
Our class needs to purchase more books that students want to read so that they can improve their reading skills through practice.
