I teach self-contained special education students at an inner- city, alternative high school. The student/staff ratio is low, so that we can maximize the learning experiences for each child. My teaching assistant and I strive to cover the content, while motivating the students to be fully engaged learners. The students are offered all of their core academic subjects within my self-contained classroom. Students typically stay in our alternative setting for one or two semesters.
