I teach at a charter school in a high poverty, high crime area outside of Philadelphia. Often times, people will comment "Nothing good comes from Chester!" And this statement could not be farther from the truth! My class of 4th grade students are extremely bright, inquisitive, sweet, caring children! My students come to school each and every day ready and excited to take on the day, despite any challenges they may be facing outside of the classroom. Although my students may not live in an ideal location, they still deserve the best educational opportunity. My goal is to be the teacher for my students that I want for my own children. With that being said, it is often difficult to give these students everything they deserve due to district budgetary issues. I spend a lot of my own money to make my classroom a safe, welcoming, and enriching environment for my students, however being a teacher, my own budget is limited.
