My school is located within an independent school district 2 miles away from two other large independent school districts. Because of this, it is not uncommon for the class to have movement of one-third of the students each year. Our population is very mobile and because of this, we often have students who come without prerequisite skills to be successful in the classroom.
Our students need opportunities to build thinking skills and problem solving skills. My students need much spiraling and reteaching of skills being taught. My students need 2 STEM learning labs, math problem solving kits, book bins and supply caddies, and colored paper to limit glare and visual perception issues. It is because of the high mobility that I believe that the students will benefit from the Real-World Math Problem Solving Kits. Hands-on opportunities will provide my students with much needed practice. Having the Don’t Lose Your Marbles STEM Learning Lab, puzzles and games material to instruct them will provide essential life experiences. Students will be actively engaged with the materials. They will learn through play as they acquire knowledge.
