Many of my second grade students are English Language Learners who live in a high poverty community and receive free lunch. Many are bilingual and receive support in their primary language in order for their parents to engage and offer academic support. In many cases, they are the first child in their family to learn to speak, read, and write in English. Our school is a STEM school in which the students apply what they learn in both English, Spanish other primary language and are proud of themselves for being bilingual and bicultural.
