The task that I am faced with this year is taking on a school where the previous district has been shut down completely. As a neighboring district we have taken on the challenge. During the first few weeks of school the staff has noticed that these students are two and three grade levels behind. The low socioeconomic level of these students doesn't help. How can a student do his/her homework without electricity? How can a student listen to the lesson when his/her stomach is louder than the teacher? Hopefully, as a first grade teacher in a new environment I can be the vessel that can stop the cycle of poverty.
