These two sets of reading materials will help to create a love of reading and encourage choice! In Michigan, the 3rd Grade Social Studies is focused on Michigan. The Scholastic News will aid in bringing in current happenings around the world to engage children in what is going on around them. I plan to use these news stories to connect to what is specifically happening in Michigan to show how our very own state is connected to the world! The collection of books will stock my shelves with engaging books students will be excited to get their hands on! At the beginning of every school year, the students and I talk about how to choose a "Good Fit Book," and having these current, exciting books will strengthen the importance of best practices and choice!
