As a fifth grade teacher, I want to expose my students to a variety of books. Our second reading unit focuses on nonfiction text. We will read a variety of different topics including animals, technology, and other science topics. These books will be used by my students to practice reading and writing about nonfiction text. We will focus on different parts of a nonfiction book, as well as identifying the main idea and supporting details. Our classroom has many books, but we are limited in high interest nonfiction text. As a teacher I know that getting boys to read can be a hard, but books about animals always pulls those reluctant boys to read.
