Our school is a neighborhood school with over 600 students in grades Pre-K to 5th, that is located in a rural suburb setting. The school is a Title 1 school with 62% of the students on free or reduced lunch.
Our kids are a diverse group similar to the state's population averages. In my five years at the school, I have seen the impact of the recession on the neighborhood. More kids are coming with different levels of support and it is up to the administration and teachers help build a sense of community. Last year, we were able use the Donorschoose donations to build our Square Foot Gardening project.
This year, we are going after technology to create a 1 to 1 classroom. It is time to stop dreaming and start doing.
