My 18-2nd grade sailors are part of a bilingual program where they receive dual language. They are English Language Learners who are acquiring English. They are motivated, spontaneous, and eager learners who thrive on reading nonfiction text, especially when focused on their interests. They love reading & creating their own books in relation to what they've read. My school is about 85% economically disadvantaged and ELL population. The major issue is that most of them do not have computers at home or Internet access. At this time 6/18 students do not have computers nor internet access. This creates a "stormy sea" for our sailors because they are not able to complete research projects at home. In class we collaborate and work in small groups often, but the fact that there are only 2 working computers available causes an issue as well. Technology efforts are focused on 3rd-5th grade. I don't foresee technology, in the near future, for my 2nd graders. Please help my sailors reach their destination.
