My class consists of students that have recently arrived to this country from other Hispanic countries. They are third graders with limited proficiency and fluency in the English language also known as ESL (English as a Second Language) students. My school is located in a low-socioeconomic area with parents working multiple jobs and with no English background themselves. My class is filled with excitement and hunger to learn, perform and fit in with their peers. To know that at the beginning of the school year they did not understand simple every day survival skills through the use of the language to then witness months later all the successes my students achieved, just overwhelms me with great joy of their accomplishments and the gratitude of their parents.
