I work at a high school of a population of around 1300 students-70% of whom are on free and reduced lunch. We have a strong sense of belonging, and, despite our size, a sense of "family". Some of my students want to succeed at high school and earn a degree, but there is also a culture here that because parents or guardians didn't graduate from high school, it is OK. for the students of those families not to graduate as well. There are many, many reasons for this, but one way to combat it is through engagement; if a kid is interested in the material, he/she will learn it without even realizing they are learning it!
I wanted to make class resource rich with the power of the Internet and up the engagement in my class room. I asked for and got a brand new cart of 36 HP Chromebook 11s. I was so excited--until I opened my class lists and saw my biggest class was 42 kids. I am in desperate need for each kid to have a Chromebook for a true on-line class.
