The school is composed of 96% minority students with 83% of the population receiving free/reduced lunch. The 2013 FCAT Science test indicates that 35% of the students assessed were at a mastery level. Additionally, the 2013 FCAT Mathematics test indicates that 37% of the students were at mastery level. This project will provide unique learning strategies for benchmarks that are tested on the FCAT test in Science, Mathematics, and Reading.
The Cambridge Academy (a part of the school) is a project based learning academy, thus this project would mesh with their curriculum well. The school also participates in a "Dreaming In Green"ÂÂ project that helps the school become more environmentally conscious. This would would help facilitate the "Dreaming In Green"Âproject at a larger level, including having working compost, a rain barrel, and a solar powered weather station. The gardens provide an opportunity for students to apply their math and science knowledge to real world problems.
