I am requesting 4 new trombones. Due to being located in a socioeconomically disadvantaged area, the students can not afford to buy or rent their own instruments. These instruments will be shared among trombone players in each of my classes and also for the after school band trombone players. Although 4 instruments is not enough, it is a great help to get the kids hyped and ready to play on a full functional instrument.
We have not had a new trombone since 2008! Due to the cost of instrument repair and not having a budget, the students have to play with dented slides and taped up spit valves. This causes intonation problems within our band. We have not let this situation stop our music program from being great.
The band must play on! With that being said, we will use these instruments in our Winter and Spring Concerts, parades, festivals, school activities and in any other way the students can display their talents. It will be a great asset to have brand new shining trombones for the kiddos to perform with!
